Marywood Takes the Series

Box Score

SCRANTON, PA -
The Crimson Eagles were upended 16-3 in Scranton Monday afternoon as the Pacers swept the three game series with the win.

The Pacers clubbed 19 hits on the afternoon, manufacturing runs in six of nine innings for the contest. After opening up a 1-0 edge in the top of the first, Marywood logged 12 scores over the ensuing four stanzas before finally tacking on three insurance runs in the seventh.

PBU notched solo scores during the fourth, sixth, and eighth frames fueled by nine hits for the contest, but the group was hindered by 12 strikeouts at the plate, a factor that led to 10 runners left on base for the game.

After taking the mound at the top of the eighth, closer Mike Sundholm tossed two innings, allowing just a single hit while striking out four. Sundholm also did severe damage at the plate, going 4-for-5 while logging all three Crimson Eagle scores for the afternoon.

Ryan Eshleman and Caleb Reimer both proved two hits for PBU.

The baseball team will get back into action on Wednesday during the NCCAA East Region Tournament. The Crimson Eagles will open up play at 12:30 pm against Valley Forge Christian College. A win would give the squad an opportunity to play in the regional championship later that afternoon against the winner of Lancaster Bible College and Baptist Bible College.
