Crimson Eagles Fall to Purchase in Home Opener

Box Score

LANGHORNE, PA -
Despite a 1-0 lead through three innings, the baseball squad couldn't hold off Purchase College during the back end of play Tuesday afternoon as the Panthers rattled off eight unanswered runs.

The visitors ended up logging at least one score in five of the final six innings en route to their seventh win of the season during the 8-1 triumph.

A pair of singles from Nicholas Schnittjer and Kevin Sweigard in the bottom of the second helped PBU notch the first score of the contest.

However, Purchase responded during the top of the fourth with a solo score of their own, locking things at 1-apiece. The Panthers would go on to tally seven runs over the next four stanzas, including a three run sixth inning that helped boost their edge to 5-1.

The visitors knocked around 10 hits for the game compared to five for PBU as the Crimson Eagles finished the afternoon just 3-for-13 with runners on base.

Matt Betts was solid from the mound throughout five innings of work, allowing just two hits and one run while striking out three. Sweigard paced the Crimson Eagles offensively, finished 2-for-3 at the plate while registering PBU's lone run.

The Crimson Eagles slip to 0-4 on the year while Purchase moves to 7-2 overall.

The baseball team will return to the field on Friday, taking on Keystone College on the road in a single game at 3:00 pm.
