LANGHORNE, PA - Immaculata University managed a pair of victories over the Crimson Eagles Monday afternoon, as the baseball team fell 11-7 and 15-4 during the double-header.
A late rally during game one wasn't enough for PBU to capture their first ever CSAC win as the Mighty Macs weathered a furious fifth inning spurt from the Crimson Eagles. The host group tallied six scores in the inning on six hits, a number that included a bases-clearing grand slam from PBU senior Jayson Hernandez.
Trailing 11-6 heading into the top of the ninth, the Crimson Eagles added a single run to the scoreboard but squandered any chance of a dramatic comeback by leaving three runners on base for the stanza.
PBU actually out-hit Immaculata for the game, registering a 12-11 edge in the category.
The Mighty Macs would jump all over the Crimson Eagles during game two, pumping in eight runs during the third inning alone. PBU managed four scores during the top of the fifth fueled by five hits from the host squad, but Immaculata responded with at least two scores in four of six innings to cruise to the 11 run win.
The Crimson Eagles struggled defensively during the loss, charting five errors for the game - including two in what ended up being an extremely costly third inning.
Ryan Eshleman had a productive afternoon putting forth a five for six effort at the plate while Hernandez chipped in with three hits while knocking in five runs. Caleb Reimer added four singles in eight plate appearances.
The Crimson Eagles will have a second crack at Immaculata in as many days on Tuesday during a single game against the Mighty Macs in Langhorne at 3:00 pm.
