LANGHORNE, PA - A late game rally wasn't enough to dig out of an early deficit Friday afternoon as the Crimson Eagles fell 15-5 to Centenary College.
The Cyclones wasted little time asserting control during the CSAC affair as the host squad piled on multi-run innings during each of the opening three stanzas to roll out to a 14-0 edge early on. Centenary managed to tack on an additional score in the fifth, bringing their run production total to 15.
Determined to avoid the shutout, PBU logged two scores during the top of the seventh sparked by two doubles during the period. Paced by three hits in the bottom of the ninth, the visitors logged a trio of scores in the inning to bring their final run tally up to five.
After scoring three runs over a six game period, with Tuesday's offensive performance intact, the group has come alive as of late, posting 36 scores over their last five outings.
Rookie hurler Dean Diernbach threw four masterful innings during the back end of play for PBU, allowing just two hits and no runs while coupling four strikeouts against just two walks.
Shawn Bramble, Jayson Hernandez, and Ryan Eshleman all charted two hits for the day.
PBU will return to action against the Cyclones on Saturday during a double-header in Langhorne. The opening toss is slated for noon.
