LANGHORNE, PA - Scoring just three runs over the course of their last six games, the baseball team finally let loose at the plate Saturday afternoon but nonetheless still fell short during a pair of losses to Neumann University.
It ended up being an isolated inning of magic during their opening game with the Knights, but the top of the second saw PBU explode for eight scores sparked by six hits and a walk. Up 8-1, the Crimson Eagles surrendered a solo score during the bottom of the inning but helplessly watched as back-to-back disastrous innings unfolded in the third and fourth stanzas.
The Knights battered around 11 runs during the time frame on seven hits to help take a 13-8 edge. The host group managed two additional insurance runs before all was said and done, eventually edging out PBU by a final count of 15-8 as the Crimson Eagles failed to score another run following their second inning eruption.
After going down 3-0 in game two, the red and white responded by evening things at 3-apiece during the top of the second inning. But seven scores from the host group over the ensuing two periods helped provide a 10-3 cushion for Neumann.
PBU would tack on two additional runs in the fourth, but it was all the group would manage to manufacture during a 15-5 loss. Their 11 hits in the defeat signals the fifth time this year the group has surpassed the double-digit hit barrier.
Caleb Reimer paced PBU with a four hit, three RBI effort throughout the two games and Mike Sundholm added four knocks and two runs.
The Crimson Eagles will take a break from conference play on Tuesday when the group heads to Clarks Summit for an outing with Baptist Bible College at 2:00 pm.
