LANGHORNE, PA - The Crimson Eagles began Tuesday's affair with Purchase College looking to put last season's struggles officially in the rear view mirror.
Although it's already clear this is a different team with a different attitude than last year's version of PBU baseball, the Crimson Eagles ultimately succumbed to some timely Panther hitting as the host squad ran away with a 14-2 triumph.
Purchase hammered the Crimson Eagles with 10 runs in the third inning alone, breaking open a 3-0 lead to discourage any comeback bid from PBU down the stretch.
The Crimson Eagles would respond by finding the scoreboard for the first time in the top of the fifth as a Matt Betts single knocked home Shawn Bramble. PBU managed one additional score during the ensuing inning sparked by a Caleb Reimer triple to kick off the stanza.
The guest squad was shackled by 14 strikeouts at the plate for the afternoon, accounting for just under half of their total plate appearances. The Crimson Eagles also stranded nine base runners for the game and slipped up four times defensively in the error department.
Shawn Bramble paced PBU offensively in the lead-off spot, collecting the group's only mulit-hit effort for the contest. Matt Betts, Caleb Reimer, Ryan Eshleman, and Ricky Ragone each pounded out a single hit for the game.
The Crimson Eagles have a week wait before the team returns to action. The squad will suit up next Tuesday for a 1:00 pm date on the road with Johnson Bible College in Tennessee.
