LANGHORNE, PA - Following Friday's shutout loss to Gwynedd-Mercy College, the Crimson Eagles went into Saturday's double-header looking to at least get on the scoreboard.
Despite picking up their run production, however, the Griffins unfortunately managed to continue their torrid output on the offensive end as the visitors scored 33 runs during the 14 inning double-header.
Gwynedd-Mercy pounded out a 26-4 triumph during the opening contest, pummeling 28 hits for the game. Fifteen different batters reached base for the Griffins, a mark that was highlighted by senior second baseman Nick Goetz who posted four hits and eight RBI's in the win.
The Crimson Eagles managed to increase their run support from a night ago but the group's nine hits sprinkled throughout the game wasn't enough to overcome Gwynedd's hot offensive streak. Senior Phil Haas led PBU with two hits and four putouts defensively.
The host group managed to keep game two within striking distance throughout its entirety but eventually fell 7-1. Leading just 3-0 heading into the top of the sixth, the Griffins smashed four runs during the inning to extend their edge.
After giving up 55 hits through their previous two games with Gwynedd, the Crimson Eagles stiffened up defensively, limiting the Griffins to just eight knocks for the contest during the loss.
Senior shortstop Jayson Hernandez paced PBU with two hits while sophomore Shawn Bramble also reached base in the loss.
The Crimson Eagles drop to 1-5 on the season.
The baseball squad returns to action on Wednesday at home, taking on Maine-Presque Isle in non-conference action at 1:00 pm.
