PBU Roughed Up on Road

Box Score

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA - Following a spirited effort that saw the Crimson Eagles churn out the program's first win in nearly two years last week, things didn't fair quite so well on Friday.

During the team's conference opener, the baseball squad got drilled by a Gwynedd-Mercy group that pounded out 31 runs for the day while limiting PBU to a single hit.

The Crimson Eagles committed eight errors defensively, a mark that helped spurn the Griffins to their highest offensive output in program history. "

Gwynedd is a good hitting team but we played well below our ability defensively today," interim head coach Drew Watson reflected following the day's action. "When you're playing a team of their caliber you can't give them extra outs. We did, and they made us pay. Hopefully we'll be more focused tomorrow."

Gwynedd drilled 17 runs in the first two innings alone, including a 13 score second stanza. The host squad utilized 29 knocks throughout the afternoon and were spurred on by six different Griffin players that tallied three or more RBI's on the day.

Matt Betts had the lone hit for the Crimson Eagles.

PBU falls to 1-3 on the year while the Griffins move to 6-5 overall. The baseball team will look to even the slate tomorrow afternoon during a double-header with Gwynedd, with the first pitch slated to be thrown at noon.
