LANGHORNE, PA - With nearly eighty degree temperatures and the sun beating down without a cloud in the sky, the weather ended up being about the only thing the Crimson Eagles had going for them Saturday afternoon.
Penn State Berks controlled action from start to finish during the weekend double-header, rolling past the baseball team by near identical scores of 21-0 and 21-1.
The Crimson Eagles struggled to get things going offensively, managing just four dings throughout 14 innings of action including a single-slash in the hit column during the opening contest. The combination of Penn State Berks hurlers Brad Swavely and Brian Wrobel proved brilliant as the combo tossed a one hit shutout to help the Nittany Lions cruise in their second biggest win of the season.
Game three didn't fair much better for the host squad although the group did manage a single score in the bottom of the second inning to break the shutout. Sophomore Matt Betts managed to cross home plate following a Berks error giving PBU their only score of the afternoon.
But Penn State's 23-3 edge in the hitting category and 8-1 advantage in walks for the game was enough to propell the visitor's to their second straight 21 run contest.
Shawn Bramble, Ricky Ragone, Matt Butrica, and Tom Fenwick each tallied a single hit on the day.
The Crimson Eagles will get back in action on Tuesday when the group hosts Swarthmore College in their third straight non-conference meeting. The opening toss is set to be thrown at 3:00 pm.
