SCRANTON, PA – The Crimson Eagles had to battle snow, wind, and even ice during their two-hour trip to Marywood University on Saturday. Unfortunately things didn’t get much better once the group arrived at the Robert J. Mellow Center as PBU ended up having to fight torrid conditions indoor as well.
During what might be considered as just “one of those days”, the Crimson Eagles connected on just 11 of 39 shots for the game (28.2 percent) and didn’t help their cause by coughing up the ball 25 times throughout the 40 minutes of play, eventually succumbing by a final count of 63-32.
Although the Pacers struggled to protect the ball at times as well finishing the afternoon with 23 giveaways, the host squad nonetheless managed to hit more field goals in the second half alone (15) than PBU managed for the game (11), connecting at a 50 percent clip for the afternoon. To compound matters, the always reliable long-ball was missing for the Crimson Eagles as the group hit just 2 of 13 triples for the game.
After kicking off the first 7:15 of play down 10-4, Marywood soon decided to take over. The Pacers went on an 18-0 romp over the ensuing 5:47 to seize a 22-10 lead, and would hold the Crimson Eagles field goal-less for the remainder of the period, taking a 28-11 edge into the break with PBU’s only consolation point coming at the charity stripe from junior Dani Norton.
Looking to change the tide in the second stanza, things instead only managed to worsen for PBU. Marywood would soon bump their lead to 32-11 and would eventually see their advantage balloon to 27 midway through the final 20 minutes.
Marywood managed to get off 17 more shots than PBU for the game, thanks, in part, to a 39-26 discrepancy on the glass. The Pacers also held distinct advantages in assists (18-7) and free throw percentage (100.0 - 40.0) in their seventh triumph of the season.
Rookie point guard Sara Poole led PBU as the only player in double figures with 11 points on four of seven shooting. Junior forward Lindsay Fornwalt chipped in with seven points and two steals in 33 minutes of work.
The Crimson Eagles slip to 3-5 (1-2 CSAC) while Marywood moves to 7-4 (2-2 CSAC).
PBU will look to bounce back this Monday when the group heads to Gwynedd-Mercy College to take on the Griffins at 7:00 pm.
