LANGHORNE, PA - So much for following the trend.
Facing a squad that is known for their defensive presence, the Crimson Eagles somehow managed to explode for their greatest offensive output in over two years in a 4-2 win over visiting Cedar Crest College.
Perhaps the most impressive part of the feat was not the fact that PBU scored four goals, but who the four scores came against.
Although Cedar Crest has somewhat struggled on the offensive end so far this season, the team's collective defensive tenacity is another story. Coming into Wednesday's game, the Falcons were allowing just 2.16 goals a game placing the group in the top 30 in the nation. Additionally, Falcon keeper Rachel Orlen entered the contest with a .849 save percentage, good enough to rank the junior out of Robbinsville, NJ 19th overall nationally.
But PBU wasn't interested in trends or statistic Wednesday.
Instead, the Crimson Eagles pumped in two scores in each half to help the group to to their second win of the season, and - most importantly - their first ever win in CSAC competition. Senior forward Erin Rohrer tallied two scores and PBU outshot the visitors 37-11 (inlcuding a 23-2 margin in the back end of play) to pull the team's conference record to an even 1-1 for the year.
Freshman Erica Yordy fired a game high 12 shots on the day and netted her second career score, and senior Juania Crain topped things off with late game goal to help give PBU the two-point spread.
PBU improves to 2-6 overall with the triumph (1-1 CSAC) while Cedar Crest slips to 2-5 (1-1 CSAC).
On Saturday, the field hockey team will play in their third straight conference game when the squad hits the road to go up against Neumann College at 1:00 pm.
