Former PBU Coach Inducted into NFHCA Hall of Fame

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Former Philadelphia Biblical University field hockey coach Bertie Landes has been inducted into the prestigious National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Currently the head coach at NCAA Division-II Shippensburg, Landes led PBU for 19 seasons, compiling a record of 184-56-16 (.744) and winning 14 Philadelphia Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (PAIAW) championships between 1980-98.
At Shippensburg, Landes has been just as impressive, posting a record of 217-60-1 in 13 seasons and earning six Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year awards.

A native of Collegeville, PA, Landes was a four-year starter on defense at Lock Haven University, while she also earned multiple letters in basketball and lacrosse. After playing for the United States National Field Hockey Team from 1969-75, she went on to become head women's basketball and tennis coach at Swarthmore College, before taking over the field hockey program at Philadelphia Biblical in 1980, where she also served as a health/physical education professor.

Landes was inducted into the Philadelphia Biblical Hall of Honor, which recognizes individuals who made an outstanding contribution to Crimson Eagle athletics, in 2005. Her 184 coaching wins are 110 more than any other coach in PBU field hockey history.
She was one of four 2012 inductees into the NFHCA Hall of Fame, joining Steve Jennings, head coach at American University, Maurene Polley, head coach at Villa Maria Academy (Malvern, PA), and Patricia Provost, head coach at Notre Dame Academy (Worcester, MA). The induction ceremony took place on Jan. 14th at the Philadelphia Convention Center.
