LANGHORNE, PA - Kean University has proved to be somewhat of a thorn in PBU's side the last number of years as the Crimson Eagles have managed just one win over the Cougars - a 3-2 victory in 2004 - since the turn of the century.
Tuesday afternoon in Langhorne was no different.
The visiting Cougars controlled play from the start, dropping in seven first half goals en route to a 7-0 victory, marking the squad's second straight shutout.
Cougar Brittany Gibbs got things started early, netting what ended up being her first of three scores of the half just 2:31 into the contest. The junior forward would once again find the goal for a second time just nine minutes later as Gibbs and teammate Stephanie Carino combined for five scores and three assists through the first 35 minutes of play.
The Cougars held a lopsided 15-0 shot count in the opening period and owned a similar 15-0 advantage in corners taken. Following somewhat of a frustrating first half, the Crimson Eagles managed to turn things around in the second period and actually held a 9-2 edge in total shots taken, although none found the goal. Rookie Erica Yordy fired a team high five shots for the game.
PBU slips to 1-5 with the loss while Kean improves to 4-2.
The Crimson Eagles will then hit the road later this weekend to go head-to-head with Marywood University (1-3). Saturday’s game against the Pacers at 1:00 pm is a big one as it marks PBU’s first CSAC contest of the season.
