DOYLESTOWN, PA – With last year's game against Delaware Valley College taking an extra session to decide the outcome, the Crimson Eagles went into Wednesday's game against the Aggies with optimistic expectations.
But PBU’s search for their first victory of the season quickly turned south as Delaware Valley blew past the Crimson Eagles 11-0.
The Aggies pummeled PBU’s back line, blasting a school record 67 shots for the game while limiting the visitors to just two. Delaware Valley also posted a 20-1 edge in corners taken on the afternoon.
If not for junior keeper Lauren Roth, however, things could have been much worse. Roth tallied 32 saves for the afternoon, by far the most saves for a PBU keeper in a solo contest over the past five years.
Delaware Valley’s all-time leading scorer Michelle Cernobyl had her second four goal game of the season as the senior forward notched four scores on just six shots while dishing out two assists on the afternoon. Cernobyl tallied three of the contest’s first five goals to help give the host squad a very comfortable 6-0 advantage at the break.
Aggie junior Bethany Pavlik inked her name in the Delaware Valley history books after recording two goals and a solo assist to become the school’s all-time career leader in helpers with 19.
With the loss the Crimson Eagles remain winless at 0-4. The Aggies improve to 3-1 overall.
The field hockey team will remain on the road this weekend when the group travels up to Aurora, NY to take on Wells College. Game time is 2:00 pm.
