WENHEM, MA – With points on the offensive end a scarcity through their first two matches of the year, the question remains, who’s going to step up?
After getting shutout for the second time in as many days, the Crimson Eagles will need to figure out that question – soon. But although the back of the net has eluded the squad through their first two games of the year, PBU did manage to step up play defensively Saturday, allowing only two goals through 70 minutes of play to host institution Gordon College on a heat-filled August afternoon.
But no matter how well a team shields off and protects one’s own goal, the obvious fact of the matter is that one needs to couple that with offensive production to win. Unfortunately that wasn’t quite the case Saturday afternoon as PBU is still in search of it’s first goal of the year.
Abigail Walker got things rolling for Gordon as the senior forward connected on a score 15 minutes in to give the Scots a one-nil advantage. Sophomore Emily Peterson cracked PBU’s back line with midway through the second half to complete the scoring.
The Scots managed twenty shots on the afternoon, with Crimson Eagle keeper Lauren Roth picking up six saves in the loss.
The field hockey team will return to the field this Thursday in a 4:00 p.m. meeting with Arcadia University. It marks PBU’s first home contest of the ’08 season.
