PBU drops consecutive games on road to Berks

Lions erase PBU's slim hope of NEAC postseason play

LANGHORNE, PA - A six game losing streak during crunch time isn't exactly what you aspire for at the beginning of the year.

But unfortunately, the baseball team has found itself in the above dreaded scenario, with Thursday night's pair of losses capping the six game losing stain. In fact, after going 5-6 overall during March, the Crimson Eagles have now lost 10 of their last 11 and 13 of 15 overall during April.

With a glimmer of hope left to make the NEAC playoffs entering Thursday afternoon, the double losses to Penn State Berks mathematically ends PBU's shot at late season rally for the postseason.

The Crimson Eagles split up just three hits during game one while surrendering 14 knocks to the Nittany Lions. Berks cashed in on an early lead by collecting a solo run in the first followed by six scores in the top of the second. PBU's attempt at a comeback fell short as the Crimson Eagles managed just a single score in the third to fall 7-1 to the hosts who move to 8-4 in the conference with the pair of triumphs.

Junior Jon Shepherd took the pitching circle during game two for PBU and gave up a somewhat run-of-the-mill count of 10 hits for the game. But Penn State Berks was determined to capitalize on their chances as the group built up a 6-1 lead at the end of the third and blew up for six runs in the sixth to give Berks their third sweep during a doubleheader of the year. The Lions won game two 12-5.

PBU falls to 7-19 (3-9 NEAC) with the losses while Penn State Berks improves to 12-21 (8-4 NEAC).

The baseball team will take on Cazenovia College on Friday in their last doubleheader of the season. The Crimson Eagles will square off with the Wildcats at 2:00 pm in Langhorne.
