ANNVILLE, PA - Despite a somewhat lopsided final score the Crimson Eagles came out of Thursday's contest with Lebanon Valley College feeling pretty good about their game against the Dutchmen.
Although PBU dropped a 6-1 decision to the number two ranked team in the country, the match was actually much closer most of the contest than the final score indicates. In fact, the Crimson Eagles held the Dutchmen scoreless through the first 28 minutes of the first half until Lebanon Valley junior forward Sarah Bevans finally cracked PBU's back line and popped in a shot over Katie Aungst's head to go up 1-0. Bevans followed up with another goal less than two minutes later, but PBU managed to limit the Dutchmen the rest of the period and went into halftime down only 2-0.
One more Lebanon Valley score midway through the second half put the Dutchmen up 3-0, but PBU's Juanita Harding managed to respond less than three minutes later with her fourth goal of the season to put the score at 3-1. However, things soon took a turn for the worse for the Crimson Eagles with roughly 15 minutes left in the game when Lebanon Valley scored their first of three goals in an 11 minutes span to help break open the game and seal the victory late in the second stanza.
Senior goalie Katie Augnst had one of her best games of the year in the loss, registering 12 saves and helping keep the Crimson Eagles in the game until late in the second half. Senior forward Erin Rohrer registered her first assist of the season off of Harding's goal.
The victory keeps Lebanon Valley's hopes alive for an undefeated season alive as the Dutchmen are currently a perfect 18-0 with only one regular season game remaining. Lebanon Valley has been rolling through teams as of recent in which their average margin of victory is just under four goals/game for the year. PBU falls to 4-15 with the loss.
The Crimson Eagles will play in their last contest of the 2007 season this Saturday at home when they square off with Wilson College. The game will start just after noon at 1:00 pm.
