IMMACULATA, PA - The Crimson Eagles won their second consecutive game Saturday afternoon, downing Immaculata University in a close match to help earn PBU's fourth win of the season.
For the second contest in a row the Crimson Eagles were able to control the majority of play throughout the game, and used a 7-1 shot advantage to over the host Mighty Macs to propel the team to a 1-0 victory. The win marks the team's second consecutive shutout as well as their third of the season.
Senior midfielder Stacy Messick scored the lone goal of the game for either team when she slipped an unassisted shot past Mighty Mac keeper Bridget Dougherty 14:41 into the game. Messick's fourth goal of the season proved to be the game winner as neither team was able to break the oppositions' back line for the remainder of the contest.
PBU's defense was outstanding on the afternoon and kept Crimson Eagle goalie Katie Aungst relatively actionless, as the senior wasn't required to make any saves in the shutout. PBU's offense also held a slight edge in corner penalties with an 8-4 advantage through the two periods. Immaculata keeper Bridget Dougherty ended the afternoon with four saves.
With the win, PBU improves to 4-14 on the season while the Mighty Macs fall to 3-14.
After Saturday's match, the Crimson Eagles are down to their final two games of the year. In their second to last contest the field hockey team will travel to play Lebanon Valley College on Thursday at 3:30 pm.
