MLAX: Highlanders Set to Compete for Conference Championship

LANGHORNE, PA - The 2024 United East Men's Lacrosse field is set as Cairn University Men's Lacrosse has officially clinched a playoff spot for the second year in a row. They will be No. 4 seed in the Untied East Conference and will face St. Mary's (MD) on Tuesday, April 30.

THE FIELD:
St. Mary's College (MD) (5-0) was able to clinch the No.1 seed with a perfect record through conference play. The No. 2 seed goes to Penn College (4-1) after beating Keystone College in a tie breaker this past Saturday. With that, Keystone (3-2) dropped to No. 3 seed while the Highlanders secured the No. 4 seed and are looking to capture their first championship in school history. On Tuesday, April 30 the Untied East Semi-Final will take place. The No. 1 seed Seahawks will host the No. 4 Highlanders while the No. 3 Keystone will travel to play No. 2 Penn College. The winners will face off in the Untied East Championship on Saturday, May 4. The highest seed remaining will host the game.

OUR TEAM:
The Highlanders finished the season with a record of 4-8 while going 2-3 in conference play. Most of the scoring for this season came from senior attacker Jonathan Balsamo (Long Island, NY / Eastport South Manor) who had a team-leading 33 goals and 40 points in the regular season. Sophomore midfielder/faceoff Adain Holliday (New York, NY / Urban Assembly Maker Academy) has shown his ability to get the Highlanders extra possessions, picking up 77 ground balls on the year. Sophomore attacker Cole Heffler (Eldersburg, MD / Central Maryland Christian) and senior midfielder Chaz Cotton (Newburgh, NY / Newburgh Free Academy) have facilitated scoring, combining for 23 assists throughout the year. Junior goalie Nico Cione (Yardley, PA / Pennsbury) was impressive in goal as he had 182 saves. 

THE MATCHUP:
On Tuesday, April 30 the Highlanders will travel to St. Mary's College (MD) in St. Mary' City, MD for the semifinal matchup of the 2024 United East Men's Lacrosse Championship at 5 pm.
