Langhorne, PA- The Highlanders hosted Pitt Bradford in a conference matchup. The Panthers took the win in a 22-5 blowout.
The game started off rough for the Cairn (2-7, 0-2 United East) Highlanders as Pitt Bradford (10-3, 1-0 United East) showed endless force by scoring five unanswered goals to start the game. Cairn got on the score board through senior attackman Cole Heffler (Eldersburg, MD / Central Maryland Christian) to make it 5-1 before the Panthers got three more to close out the quarter.
Pitt Bradford extended their lead by three more to start the 2nd, before Cairn answered back with freshman attackman Ethan Smelcer capitalizing off a pass from Heffler. The Panthers rolled with the punches to get two more before the end of the half.
The 3rd was a defensive battle as a total of three goals were scored in the quarter. All three from Pitt Bradford in the 12:54, 10:50, and 5:10 minute marks. Heffler pushed for an opportunity to get one but was unable to convert.
The 4th started off strong for the Highlanders as they got on the board twice with goals from sophomore midfielder Joshua Wong and Smelcer. The Panthers got one before Heffler got his 2nd of the game to make it 17-5. Pitt Bradford closed out the game by going on a 5-0 run, ending the game 22-5.
Heffler and Smelcer both got two goals while Wong added the 5th and picked up 5 ground balls as well.
The Highlanders will head on the road to face conference opponents Penn College in Williamsport, PA next Saturday, April 18th at 1pm.
