LANGHORNE, PA - The Cairn University Women's basketball team has grabbed the No. 5 seed in the 2024 United East Women's Basketball Championship tournament which tips off on Saturday, February 17 at No. 4 Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA.
THE FIELD: Notre Dame of Maryland (16-2) secured the No. 1 overall seed, finishing conference play with a ten point loss at Wilson on Wednesday night. year's regular season. Saint Elizabeth University (15-3) and Bryn Athyn (13-5) picked up the second and third seeds, respectively, after Cairn played the spoiler, beating both teams in Langhorne this week. The No. 4 seed belongs to Wilson College (12-6) who will host No.5 Cairn's Women's Basketball (10-8) this Saturday in Chambersburg, PA. The last seed at No.6 belongs to Cedar Crest College (9-9) after beating a tie breaker with Keystone. Ceder Crest secured the No. 6 seed by beating Notre Dame of Maryland in a previous match-up. The No. 3 seeded Bryn Athyn will host No. 6 Cedar Crest seed on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Bryn Athyn, PA. The top two seeds will await the winners of the first round. The lowest remaining seed will advance to the Divisional Semifinal on Monday, February 19 at No. 1 Notre Dame of Maryland, while the highest advancing seed will play at No. 2 Saint Elizabeth University. The Skye Division Final will be held at the highest remaining seed on Wednesday, February 21. From there, the Skye and Volt Division champions meet at the Volt Division's home court to battle it out for their spot at the NCAA National Tournament.

Makayla Raines (Jonesboro, GA / St. Mary's Academy) and
Taylor Hinson (Carney's Point, NJ / Collingswood HS) were the dynamic due, leading the team in scoring. Raines is averaged 19.8 (494 total) points per game thru the regular season and was second in scoring for the United East Conference. Hinson averaged 18.0 (449 total) points per game and sat sixth in the conference for scoring, collecting both her 500th career rebound and 1,000th career point in the regular season. Freshman Guard
Ella Quince (Morrisville, PA / Morrisville) was a force to be reckoned with on defense as she averaged 3.3 (75 total) steals per game which totals second in the conference.
THE MATCHUP: Cairn will play No. 4 Wilson in Chambersburg, PA on Saturday with a 1 p.m. tip off. The Highlanders played Wilson twice this year, splitting the season series. The most recent matchup against Wilson was played in Chambersburg where Hinson and Raines combined for 60 points on the road, falling 83-76. At home, Cairn collected a 76-70 win in which Hinson dropped a double-double of 29 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, and a pair of blocked shots.
