Men’s Lacrosse: Dolphins Edge Highlanders in Road Non-Conference Tilt

Box Score RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Cairn University men's lacrosse team lost, 12-8, on the road in a non-conference bout against The College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon.
 
Cairn (0-3) grabbed an early 2-0 lead after freshman Adain Holliday (Manhatten, NY / Murry Bergtraum) netted two tallies within the first five minutes of the contest. Mount Saint Vincent (1-0) scored a pair of unanswered goal to knot the bout up at two a-piece after one, and the two teams were tied at 3-3 heading into intermission.
 
In the third stanza, the Dolphins took a commanding 7-4 lead at the midway point. However, junior Jonathan Balsamo (Long Island, NY / Eastport South Manor) netted a pair of tallies, followed up by a goal by freshman Cole Heffler (Eldersburg, MD / Central Maryland Christian) to tie the game once again at 7-7 heading into the fourth quarter. Mount Saint Vincent secured the victory with a four-goal run in the first ten minutes of the final frame.
 
Balsamo led the Highlander attack with four goals and an assist, followed by Heffler and Holliday with two tallies a-pop. Junior Charles Cotton (Newburgh, NY / Newburgh Free Academy) handed out a team-high two assists in the defeat. Sophomore net minder Nico Cione (Yardley, PA / Pennsbury) secured a game-high 17 saves in a complete game effort.
 
The Highlanders will be back on the field on Wednesday, March 8 when they continue their road trip in Reading against non-conference foe Alvernia University at 4 p.m.
