After a long month of hard work and dedication from all of our athletes, we have our two Cairn Fitness Challenge winners! In first place with 62.2 points per player we have our Women's Soccer team. Coming in a very close 2nd place was our Softball team with a total of 59.5 points.
Women's soccer captain Sierra Kiekel said this about the challenge, "I really enjoyed doing the fitness challenge! I felt like it brought me closer to my teammates during this difficult time. It united us, as we were all working together for a goal. It also motivated me to workout, and when I did work out it always lifted my mood. I think it was a great thing for my team and for all of the athletes at Cairn and I was glad to be a part of it!"
The top four points leaders for Women's Soccer were Sara Hayduckok, Becca Marzinke, Victoria Ruitto and Sarah Jackson. The top four points leaders for the Softball team were Liz Malarski, Megan Maratita, Haley Tinney and Tori Knox. Jenna Collier, Head Coach of our Softball team had this to say about her team's finish, "I'm so proud of this team for coming together during quarantine and pushing themselves to their limits not only mentally but physically. Without a doubt I have seen everyone striving for greatness during this unprecedented time. I am looking forward to the day we call be back on the field together."
Sara Hayduchok said this about women's soccers victory, "The challenge was a brilliant idea to unite and motivate the athletic community during the quarantine. I am deeply proud of the commitment that our team demonstrates, despite any challenges we face individually. Thank you, Cairn Athletics, for providing a creative solution that bonded our team, improved our training habits, and gave us greater appreciation for fellow student-athletes amidst this time of isolation."
As an athletic department, we are looking forward to seeing all of this hard work pay off on the field next year!
Thank you to ALL athletes for putting a lot of time and hard work into this challenge. Continue to hold yourself and your teammates accountable in order to prepare for your upcoming seasons in the classroom and on the field. We hope to see you all very soon.
