Cairn Falls to Ranked Opponent

Box Score Langhorne, PA- After a tough match last night, the Highlanders welcomed another difficult opponent, Juniata College, to the Mason Activity Center this afternoon.  The Highlanders fought their hardest but were unable to defeat the number two ranked team in the nation falling in straight sets.

Box Score

The first set saw both teams trade points in the early goings until a six point run from the Eagles gave Juniata a commanding lead, 12-6.  The Highlanders proved unable to overcome Juniata's lead and dropped the first set, 25-16.  The Highlanders came out on fire in the second grabbing an early 3-0 lead, which stretched to as many as five points due to stellar play by junior Josiah Buss.  The Eagles stormed back into the game taking a one point lead, 14-13, but Cairn did not give up as the teams continued to trade leads over the rest of the set.  In the end, a five point run from the Eagles would prove critical to the Highlanders chances and they fell in the second set, 25-19.  The third set saw the Highlanders fall down early and battle back to tie the game at 12-12 midway through the set.  Even with the Highlanders renewed effort Cairn's offense ran dry and the Highlanders lost the third set 25-17.

The Highlanders statistical leaders on the night were:

Ryan Garven (8 kills, 3 digs)
Josiah Buss (6 kills, 2 digs)
Jeff Bishop (4 kills, 4 blocks)

The Highlanders have over a week off and will play on March 19 in conference play against Stevenson University.
