Box Score Langhorne, PA- In a tough contest between the Highlanders and Saints of Marymount University, Cairn fell 3-1 and was unable to overcome their conference opponent.
Box ScoreThe Cairn Highlanders men's volleyball team were playing their first match since March 18th and the layoff did not seem to do them well, as the Highlanders could not find their groove against the visiting Saints. In the first set, Cairn had to shake off the rust as they fell down 9-2 to start the set; but without an ounce of quit in them, the Highlanders roared back tying the score at eleven all a few minutes later. Cairn, showing that they would not be pushovers, fought hard the rest of the set and the score stood tied twenty-one apiece near the end of the set. Two huge blocks for the Saints would spell the end for Cairn though as they were defeated in the first set, 25-14. Discouraged by the close loss, Cairn again trailed extremely early in the first set, and later went on to lose, only managing fourteen points. Down two sets to zero, Cairn finally found their form and Josiah Buss carried the Highlanders to a third set victory, 25-16. The set had remained close until Cairn rattled off a six point run due in large part to three powerful kills from Buss. Needing a win in the fourth set to continue the match, Cairn again showed up big, as senior Jeff Bishop was able to mix in kills and blocks, and the Highlanders led late in the set by a score of 23-21. Two Marymount kills and two Marymount blocks later the Highlanders had been shocked, dropping the fourth set 25-23 and losing the match.
Cairn's top performers for the night included:
Jon Wilson (38 assists, 15 digs)
Josiah Buss (12 kills, 7 digs)
Jeff Bishop (10 kills, 4 digs, only 1 error)
Randall Colson (9 kills)
