Box Score
The Highlanders and Chargers traded points in the beginning of the first set until a four point run of kills by Josiah Buss, Jeff Bishop, and Ryan Garven staked Cairn to what would inevitably be a set-deciding lead. Â Cairn held off the Chargers for the remainder of the set and when a Josiah Buss spike met the floor, Cairn had achieved a first set victory, 25-20.
The second set contained far more drama as Cairn trailed LBC, 17-13, midway through the set. Â Two kills from Bishop, compounded by two Chargers errors brought the Highlanders right back into the game. Â With their renewed spirit Cairn was able to once again pull out a victory, due to yet another finishing kill from Buss.
The Highlanders geared up for the third set seeking a clean sweep of their out of conference rivals, Lancaster Bible College. Â Cairn was able to remain steady throughout the duration of the set and achieve a win when Highlander setter Jon Wilson blocked LBC outside hitter Mitch Demko to finish the night's affairs. Â
The Highlanders standout performers for the night were:
Ryan Garven (17 kills, .424 hitting percentage)
Josiah Buss (10 kills, 12 digs)
Randall Colson (9 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks)
Jon Wilson (36 assists, 7 digs)
The Highlanders will travel to Virginia this weekend to face off against Marymount University and Eastern Mennonite University, hoping to stretch their record past .500 for the first time all season.
