Men's Volleyball Split Tri-Match

Box Score 1 | Box Score 3 Langhorne, PA- Cairn University hosted their second tri-match of the season this Saturday against PSU- Altoona and York College and split their games 1-1.

The Lions came out strong against the Highlanders and were able to pull off a 1-0 lead against Cairn after the first match with a close score of 25-23. The Highlanders stepped it up in the second match and stayed right on the Lions tails.  The teams battled it out but a Randall Colson kill gave Cairn the winning score, 25-23. They were neck and neck for the first half of the 3rd set until the Highlanders took the lead at 15-13 and were able to grab the win, 25-18. The start of the fourth set proved to be just as close as the previous sets but once again Cairn was able to take the lead. Finally, Cairn's competition could not be matched by PSU and the team swept up the 3-1 win with yet another kill by Colson, 25-18.

Cairn's top performers in the first match against PSU-Altoona were:

Randall Colson (16 kills, 6 digs, 4 blocks)
Ryan Garven (15 kills, 10 digs)
Josiah Buss (11 kills, 9 digs)
Jon Wilson (39 assists)

The Cardinals of York College defeated the Lions of PSU-Altoona, 3-0, in the second match of the afternoon.

Cairn dropped the final contest to the Cardinals of York College, 3-1. The first set started out very close until Cairn broke out ahead of the Cardinals with a couple of service aces from Randall Colson and a combo of kills from Josiah Buss and Ryan Garven. Cairn swept up the first set, 25-18. However, the next three sets the Cardinals claimed, 25-21, 25-21, 25-20.

The statistical leaders for the match against York were:

Ryan Garven (16 kills, 10 digs, 3 blocks)
Josiah Buss ( 13 kills)
Jon Wilson (36 assists)

This week the Highlanders will be hosting Stevenson University on Wednesday night at 7:00pm. The team will then travel to New York to face off SUNY New Paltz on Friday night and then will make their way to Bennington, Vermont for a tri-match on Saturday.
