Box Score Newark, NJ- Cairn University begins the season with a 3-0 loss to the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark University.

Heading into their first game of the season, the Highlanders knew they would need to fight hard against D1 Rutgers-Newark.

Cairn struggled throughout the first and second games, making numerous errors allowing Rutgers to glide through with scores of 25-15 and 25-13. However, by the third game Cairn had found their groove and had remained within two points of the Raiders throughout the majority of the game.

The two teams battled it out when the Highlanders took the lead 18-17 with a kill from Jeff Bishop. Rutgers eventually took a 21-20 lead and snagged the win from Cairn with a final score of 25-23.

Ryan Garven had a game high of 14 kills and Michael Emond a team high of 8 digs.

The Highlanders will look to bounce back this Saturday during the team's first home tri-match against New Jersey City University and Emerson College at 11:00pm and 3:00pm.
