Langhorne, PA – The Highlanders dropped two games over the weekend against the Royals and Hawks in a non-conference tri-match.
In the day’s opening contest, the Highlanders faced off against a familiar foe in Eastern Mennonite University. Cairn’s
Ethan Mawhinney and
Noah Prickett combined for an impressive 27 kills. Mawhinney notched a career-high 16 kills. Prickett tallied 11 kills. Nate Seidle finished with an attacking percentage of .455 after recording 6 kills on 11 attempts.
In the end, it wouldn’t prove enough for Cairn as the Royals downed the Highlanders 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 27-25).
In an all too familiar scene, the Highlanders held the advantage in kills 38 to 34, but committed 8 more attacking errors than Eastern Mennonite (21 to 13).
The Royals recorded 17 blocks to Cairn’s 6.
EMU and #7 SUNY-New Paltz played out the second match to a 3-0 score line, with the Hawks sweeping the Royals.
The Highlanders returned to the court for the day’s final match against the Hawks of SUNY-New Paltz. Cairn’s senior outside hitter
Noah Prickett was at it again, this time finishing with game-highs in both kills (11) and digs (8) in just three sets. Junior
Stephen Hirsch came up with 10 kills of his own.
Defensively,
Jon Wilson came up with 7 digs and
Nate Seidle finished with 4 total blocks.
Unfortunately, the match against SUNY-New Paltz followed the same path the as the day’s earlier game against EMU. The Highlanders were in contention but came away with nothing in a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-16) loss to the #7 team in the country.
Once again, Cairn held the honor of out-numbering their opponents in the error column, this time 24-8.
Tim Ferriter led the way for the Hawks with 10 kills.
The pair of defeats knocked Cairn to 5-9 on the season.
