Bristol, TN - Following their CVC Weekend in Harrisonburg, VA, the Cairn University men's volleyball team continued their way south to South Carolina and Tennessee for a pair of non-conference matches against Coker College and King's College (Tenn.).
Against NCAA Div. II opponent Coker College, senior outside-hitter
Noah Prickett blasted 21 kills in the 3-2 win for the Highlanders, accounting for nearly half of all Cairn's kills.
Stephen Hirsch and
Ethan Mawhinney each registered 6 kills.
Jon Wilson tallied 39 assists.
Matthew Rhodes came up with a game-high 14 digs.
For Coker College, Luke Hansen led all players with 24 kills, but a high number of attacking and service errors tripped up the Cobras.
Cairn rallied from a 1-2 deficit to win in five sets, 25-23, 22-25, 28-30, 25-19, 15-13.
The next day, Cairn traveled to Tennessee to face King College.
Stephen Hirsch tied for the a game-high 13 kills and held a game-high of his own with 11 digs defensively. Wilson logged 31 helpers.
The first two sets were marathons, both finishing 30-28, with Cairn and King College each winning one apiece. The Tornadoes easily won the third set 25-13 to take a 2-1 advantage. King College held the lead for the majority of the fourth set until the Highlanders tied things up at 20-20. Cairn was unable to force a fifth set though as King College held on for the 25-22 set win, and claim victory 3-1.
Following the trip, Cairn sits at 7-13.
