Greenville, PA - Cairn University's men's volleyball team traveled to Thiel College over the weekend to take part in the seasons 1st CVC Weekend, where the Highlanders faced off against conference rivals #2 Carthage College, Fontbonne University, and non-conference Cazenovia.
On Saturday, Cairn opened the weekend with a commanding 3-0 sweep of Cazenovia, giving up only 18 points over three sets, 25-6, 25-3, 25-9. Later in the day, the Highlanders started their conference schedule off on the right foot, defeating Fontbonne 3-0 as well, 25-17, 25-22, 25-16.
On Sunday, Cairn matched-up with the #2 team in the country, Carthage College. The Highlanders held their own and made life difficult for the Red Men, but fell in the end by three sets to none, 27-25, 25-17, 25-22.
The Highlanders are .500 both overall and in league play at 5-5 and 1-1.
Coach Fuller and the rest of the Highlanders have a week now to rest and get ready for their match with Elmira College next Saturday, February 16 in Langhorne, PA. In the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association, Elmira was ranked #11.
