Cyclones Snap Cairn's 5-game Winning Streak

Box Score Langhorne, PA - Two Centenary penalty-kicks snapped a five-game winning streak for the Cairn University's men's soccer team, as the Highlanders fell 2-1 to CSAC rivals Centenary College.

Box Score

In just the 6th minute, Centenary's Quinn Khouri was fouled just inside the penalty area, resulting in Khouri giving the Cyclones a 1-0 lead from the spot, despite Cairn's Dave Shaffer guessing the correct way.

The two teams battled back-and-forth for the remaining 39 minutes of the half, with the visiting Cyclones holding a slight 4-3 edge in shots going into the break, but more importantly leading 1-0.

The second saw both teams with their chances to either tie the score or extend a lead, with Cairn and Centenary combining for 15 second half shots.

The Highlanders, in particular, were wasteful on several one-on-one occassions with Centenary's goalkeeper, Jesse Goleman. In those golden opportunites, Cairn either missed the net or had shots saved by Goleman.

Parity was restored in the 76th minute when senior Jeremy McAlack sent in a cross that found the boot of Cody Mosely fractions of a second before Centenary's Goleman could reach it. That goal tied Mosely for the team lead with five goals. It was McAlack's 3rd assist of the season.

Unfortunately for Cairn, the Cyclones would be back in front just over a minute later. Another foul inside the box, provided Khouri with yet another chance at the penalty stripe. Shaffer once again guessed the right way, this time getting his hands to Khouri's shot, but was unable to keep the shot out as Centenary went up 2-1 with 13 minutes to play.

The Highlanders had their chances but were unable to secure the equaliser.

Cairn held the shot advantage in the second stanza, 8-7, but the teams were even on shots after 90 minutes, 11-11.

Both Shaffer and Goleman recorded 6 saves on the day.

The loss slips Cairn to 7-4 overall and hands them their first conference defeat of the season, falling to 2-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

The men will look to rebound this Wednesday when they host Gwynedd Mercy University at 4pm.
