Back-to-Back Wins Versus Ranked Opponents for Men's Volleyball; 7 in a Row Now

Langhorne, PA - #13th ranked Elmira College and Lancaster Bible College were in town this Saturday for a tri-match at PBU's Mason Activity Center. It would be a happy occasion for the Crimson Eagles.

Opening up, the Crimson Eagles took on the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College. It was PBU who has been soaring of late though. PBU came into the weekend riding a 5 game win streak, including a win over #15th ranked Kean University in their last match.

Early in the season, Elmira College had won the previous meeting between these two schools back on Jan. 28th. The score on that day, 3-0. Today, a different story and a different PBU team.

The contest was close throughout but the Crimson Eagles seemed to have an answer to the Soaring Eagles on almost every occasion. In the opening set, a back-and-forth game saw PBU eventually open up a 22-15 lead. 1st-year Coach Ben Fuller used a timely timeout when it appeared Elmira was prime for a late comeback and having made it 22-19 with 4 straight points. The decision worked and PBU closed things out 25-21.

PBU led twice in the second set, 14-13 and 15-14, but those would be their only leads as Elmira led for the majority and evened the score at 1 apiece with a 25-20 win.

Elmira would take the 3rd set, 25-22 and looked to have the momentum, but backed by a strong home crowd, the Crimson Eagles had the most convincing set of the contest, winning 25-16 and forcing an exciting 5th set.

In the 5th, PBU fell behind 1-5 early on. But the Crimson Eagles gutted it out and forced a tie at 10-10. The 5th set would fittingly need extra points to separate the two teams but in the end the Crimson Eagles prevailed 18-16 and extending their winning streak to 6; and back-to-back wins against top #15 opponents.

The match also featured two of the premier set-up men in NCAA Div III. Elmira's Eric Sandmann ranks 5th in the country in assists per set while PBU's Jon Wilson (Allentown, PA / Parkland) is ranked 10th. Both players' skills were apparent and evident as they both finished with an impressive 49 assists each.

The Crimson Eagle's Noah Prickett (Yardley, PA / Pennsbury) led all players with 23 kills and 15 digs.

In PBU's second match of the day, the Crimson Eagles took on the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College.

Lancaster would surprisingly steal a set from PBU in the 3rd set but were outgunned as the Crimson Eagles came out 3-1 winners; 25-12, 25-20, 19-25, 25-15.

Four Crimson Eagles would reach double digit kills; Ryan Garven (Newtown, PA / Council Rock North), Stephen Hirsch (Iselin, NJ / Homeschool), and Nate Seidle (Plumsteadville, PA / Central Bucks West) would each have 10 kills, while Noah Prickett once again led the way with 11.

Chase Brunner (Souderton, PA / Faith Christian) got some quality minutes as well at the setter position. Brunner was credited with 20 assists, while Jon Wilson had 24.
