New York, NY - Philadelphia Biblical University's men's volleyball team put an end to a 5-game skid and got their first win in almost 2 weeks.
On Tuesday night, the Crimson Eagles traveled to the Big Apple to take on Hunter College. It would turn out to be a back and forth affair. The Crimson Eagles quickly took the home crowd out of it though by winning the opening set 25-21. The Hawks rebounded by taking the next two sets, 18-25 and 14-28.
With momentum going against them, PBU needed to respond to avoid a sixth straight defeat. However, late on in the fourth set, the Crimson Eagles found themselves on the wrong end of a 22-21 score line. They needed to make something happen and junior outside hitter
Noah Prickett (Yardley, PA / Pennsbury) stepped up and smashed home two kills to give PBU a 26-24 fourth set win.
To the final and fifth set we went, where the Crimson Eagles took control early on and never looked back. PBU would kill the match off with a 15-11 win.
Prickett had a team-high 15 kills, while
Ethan Mawhinney (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) and
Stephen Hirsch (Iselin, NJ / Home School) each had 12 kills.
Jon Wilson (Allentown, PA / Parkland) had a solid 49 assist performance. Defensively, Josiah Buss (Rochester, NY / Hilton) had 10 digs.
Hunter's Chris Newcomb had a game-high 16 kills.
PBU improves to 2-8 while Hunter slips to 1-6.
Men's volleyball will travel down to Eastern Mennonite this weekend to take part in the Eastern Mennonite Classic where the Crimson Eagles will square off with Pfieffer College and EMU. The first match is at 12:30pm against Pfieffer followed by a 7pm showdown with host EMU.
