New Paltz, NY - No matter what the Crimson Eagles do, it just seems they can't catch a break as the men's volleyball team dropped both matches this Saturday.
First up, the Crimson Eagles took on Sage Colleges. Sage College took the opening set 25-19 despite being out-killed by PBU 10-2. But what is becoming a familiar theme for the Crimson Eagles this season, PBU committed 13 errors to the Gators 6. Overall, PBU out-killed the Gators 47 to 34 and although the teams were similar in committing attacking errors, the Crimson Eagles were undone by 18 serve errors.
PBU would win the 3rd set, 25-17, but not before allowing Sage to take a 2-0 lead. In the 4th and final set, the Gators triumphed 25-19.
In the days final match, the Crimson Eagles took on host and 15th ranked SUNY-New Paltz.
Coming into the match, PBU stood at 1-7 while New Paltz boasted a 7-1 record. While PBU's record does little to show the quality of this Crimson Eagle squad, New Paltz got a firsthand look at how competitive the Crimson Eagles can be.
Over the span of three sets, neither side were able to show complete dominance as the score was close throughout the entire encounter. Unfortunately for PBU, "close" only counts in darts. New Platz would take all three sets, 25-23, 25-23, 25-19.
On the day, the Crimson Eagles were led by junior
Noah Prickett (Yardley, PA / Pennsbury) and
Josh Tuttle (Eastport, NY / Eastport) who each had 23 kills.
Stephen Hirsch (Iselin, NJ / Homeschool) had a breakout day with 17 kills while
Ethan Mawhinney (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) had 14 kills.
On the defensive end, Prickett came up with 24 digs, 17 of those against Sage.
PBU will look to get a winning streak going this Tuesday when they take on Hunter College in New York, NY.
