LANGHORNE, PA - Facing a pair of top-15 schools during Saturday's quad match at Baruch College, the Crimson Eagles finished 1-2 on the day as the group fell twice against nationally ranked counterparts.
Facing the host group to start off the game, the Crimson Eagles couldn't top the ninth ranked team in the country, falling to Baruch in three sets, 25-19, 25-23, 25-15. The Bearcats - who opened up the season just 3-9 but had won 13 straight heading into Saturday's match with PBU - extended their streak thanks to a .388 hitting clip for the contest.
The Crimson Eagles rebounded in contest number two during a 3-1 triumph over Newbury College. PBU upended the Nighthawks 25-15, 25-18, 26-28, 25-16 despite hitting under .200 percent (.188) for the second straight match. However, PBU pummeled their counterpart with a season high 13 aces en route to their 14th win of the year.
Sparring with fourth ranked UC Santa Cruz in the nightcap, the Banana Slugs limited the Crimson Eagles to their worst hitting percentage of the year (.088) while thwarting 13 PBU attack attempts. UC Santa Cruz pulled out the victory in four games, winning 25-15, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19.
The Crimson Eagles will jump back into action on Wednesday when the group returns to Langhorne to take on Stevenson University in the Mason Activity Center. Game time is 6:00 pm.
