Cyclones Storm Past Crimson Eagles

Boxscore

LANGHORNE, PA
- The Cyclones of Centenary College ran past the Crimson Eagles in route to an 8-0 win on Tuesday.

Centenary were always going to be a tough match for the struggling Crimson Eagles. Considered one of the top teams in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, Centenary finished 3rd in the pre-season coache's poll, including 2 votes to finish 1st place. Centenary is now undefeated in 4 straight matches, which includes a 1-1 draw with CSAC favorites Marywood.

PBU, on the other hand, has dropped 8 games in a row. The Crimson Eagles, who started the season with a small bench, are also now dealing with an injury crisis. Missing some of your most influential players and having to play Centenary does not make for a good recipe if you're a Crimson Eagle supporter.

Despite giving up a 13th minute goal, PBU was able to cling to a 1 goal deficit. Sara Poole started in goal for the Crimson Eagles and made 8 first half saves to keep PBU in the game. However, with less than 10 minutes to go in the half, Centenary's Caitlin Veverka notched the Cyclones 2nd goal of the game. Halftime couldn't come quick enough for the Crimson Eagles, as they would concede twice more in a minute and a half span.

There was no respite for PBU in the second half. Only after 2 minutes and 37 seconds after the restart, Samantha Sysak had started the second half barrage for Centenary. With the score at 5-0, the Cyclones Arielle Hamilton (no relation to Alexander Hamilton) decided to make her mark on the game.

Hamilton would record a second half hat trick with goals coming in the 59th, 69th, and 86th minutes to make the final score 8-0. She ended the game with 6 shots. She was topped only by teammate Caitlin Veverka who would record 11 total shots to go along with her two first half goals.

PBU's star freshman Sarah Vogel is credited with the Crimson Eagle's only shot of the game. Several half-chances never developed at the last moment for PBU. Those, of course, do not show up in the box score. Such is the game of soccer. At the end of the day, only one statistic matters.

PBU will look to break out of their funk against Cedar Crest College this Thursday, October 6 at 4pm. PBU will be playing at home.
