LANGHORNE, PA - Despite creating more scoring chances, the PBU women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting PSU-Abington in the team's final tune-up before conference play.
The injury bug continues to bite the Crimson Eagles as they began the game without starters Sarah Schenkel and Katherine Zell, who was tied for the team lead with two goals coming into the game. Missing that speed up front, the offense struggled to find consistency.
"Our passing game was off today," said coach Dewey Landon, "but we still created enough chances to win the game."
While the Crimson Eagles were creating chances, it was the Nittany Lions taking advantage of theirs. Goalkeeper Kristen Lyszczasz faced just five shots on the day, but PSU-Abington found the back of the net twice to lead 2-0 with 40 minutes remaining in the game.
Finally in the 88th minute, the Crimson Eagles put a dent in the scoreboard as Rachel Brubaker assisted Kathleen Meacham for her team-leading 3rd goal of the season.
"The goal we did score was very well taken - a perfect pass from Rachel Brubaker and a good finish from Meacham," said Landon.
Coach Landon also cited the play of Naomi Collipp on defense.
"(Collipp) saw her first significant playing time in the 2nd half and did a good job on defense as we pushed for the equalizer," said Landon.
The loss drops PBU to 1-4 on the season. The Crimson Eagles will be back on the road this Saturday as they open CSAC play at Centenary College in Hackettsville, NJ at 1:00 p.m.
