FULLERTON, CA - Facing another pair of nationally ranked foes on their trip out west Saturday afternoon, the Crimson Eagles couldn't keep pace with their two counterparts, dropping matches to both UC Santa Cruz and California Baptist University.
The combo of losses marks a current six game skid for the Crimson Eagles.
PBU fell 26-30, 29-31, 30-28, 23-30 to the second ranked team in NCAA III, UC Santa Cruz. The Slugs slithered by the Crimson Eagles by hitting .364 for the match while churning out 28 block assists compared to just six for the visitors.
Justin Brubaker paced PBU with 20 kills, 12 digs, and three aces and Leo Dueck chipped in 13 kills and eight total digs. Noah Prickett added a 10 kill, seven dig effort in the loss and Jefferson Stauffer churned out a team high mark of 13 stops defensively.
During their second match of the afternoon, the Crimson Eagles were swept by California Baptist University - a team that has knocked off arguably the best NCAA I team in the nation already this year as the group overcame Pepperdine University back in early January.
Despite their best efforts, PBU was ultimately overwhelmed by the Lancers by scores of 23-30, 24-30, 30-32.
Deuck paved the way with eight kills and 17 digs while Brubaker added 12 and eight, respectively.
The volleyball team currently sits at 16-10 on the season and will get back into action next Saturday during a conference date with Eastern Mennonite University on the road at 4:00 pm.
