PBU Comes Back For Overtime Win Over Immaculata

IMMACULATA, PA - The Crimson Eagle women's soccer team rallied from a two goal deficit at Immaculata for a thrilling 3-2 overtime win in CSAC action on Wednesday.

Today's win, coupled with their 2-0 win over Keystone on Saturday, evens their conference record at 2-2.

Kathleen Meacham lead PBU to the victory with two goals, including the game winner just four minutes into the overtime period to cap the three goal rally.  Meacham leads the team with seven goals this season.

On the winning goal, Katherine Zell intercepted an Immaculata pass and went on a 40-yard run.  Zell played the ball back to Mary Holzer who expertly played a through ball to Meacham who shook off a challenge from the goalkeeper and calmly put the ball into the empty net for the game winner.

Slow starts have been a problem for PBU this year, and today was no different as Immaculata's Bridget Cunningham scored two 1st half goals to give Immaculata a 2-0 lead going into the half.

"We actually played well in the 1st half," said coach Dewey Landon, "but we made two mistakes and they scored both times."

Unlike previous games, the Crimson Eagles did not allow a slow start to put the game out of reach.

Meacham put PBU on the board in the 56th minute, rebounding on a shot off the crossbar and burying it for her 6th goal of the season.  Not even three minutes later, the Crimson Eagles would tie the score on a goal by Zell, her fourth of the year.  She was assisted on the play by Katelyn Clairmont.

Although the forwards get a lot of the glory for scoring goals, Coach Landon credited the midfielders for keeping the Crimson Eagles in the game.

"Rachel Brubaker and Mary Holzer were brilliant in the center of the midfield today," said Landon.

Goalie Kristen Lyszczasz was outstanding in goal with 11 saves, but none was more important than an outstanding save on a headball late in the 2nd half to help force the game into overtime.

With the win, the Crimson Eagles improve to 3-9 overall and move into a tie for 6th place in the CSAC standings.

PBU will look to continue their winning ways as they host a tough Marywood squad on Saturday, October 9 at 1:00 p.m.
