Neumann Fends off PBU in 1-0 Battle

Box Score

ASTON, PA
- No team wants to go through droughts, especially when you hit your conference schedule in full swing.

But with no goals over the course of their past four games, that's the exact scenario the women's soccer team has found themselves in.

Despite a commendable performance defensively for the Crimson Eagles in their most recent outing, the group's goal-scoring woes continue to be a struggle thus far, and Wednesday was no exception.

Neumann University needed just a single tally to hurdle past PBU during the midweek showdown as the Knights collected their first win in conference play on the year following a 1-0 triumph over their counterpart.

Nonetheless, head coach Clay Roberts remained optimistic about his team's overall performance Wednesday, noting improved play all around.

"Despite the loss I thought we played very well," Roberts said. "We moved the ball confidently and showed definite improvement with overall ball control - we just failed to finish."

The host squad's goal came just 10:35 in when Knight Ana Galt collected a feed from Maria Tivoli and pummeled it into the back of the net in what ultimately proved to be the game winner.

The Crimson Eagles would counter with nine shots in the opening period alone and would eventually rocket their second greatest number of  blasts for the year (14). Despite the effort, PBU nonetheless failed to reach the scoring column for the seventh time in nine games thus far.

The soccer team falls to 1-7-1 on the year with the loss while the Knights improve to 5-4-1.

"I'm very proud of the way we played," Roberts said. "One of the most important things you hope for as a coach is improvement which is what we've been showing as of late."

The Crimson Eagles will continue their search for the group's first CSAC win this Saturday during homecoming against Keystone College. Match time against the Giants is noon.
