LA PLUME, PA - The Crimson Eagles seemed to be primed for a miraculous come-from-behind triumph on Saturday in their first conference game of the season before it all went downhill.
Down 1-0 to host Keystone College with the final seconds ticking away, senior Jeremy Dunham pulled off the miraculous, netting what ended up being PBU's only score of the game with just 20 seconds left to tie things at 1-1 and force overtime.
With momentum flowing in the Crimson Eagles' favor during the opening extra sesson, the visitors connected on what they thought was the game winning golden goal when Jon Minnema played a ball just inside the end line to a streaking Justin Hays, who headed the ball into the net. But lost amidst the celebration was a referee's whistle signaling that the goal didn't count - Hays had been inexplicably called offside.
With PBU celebrating what they thought was a game winning goal then trying to process what had happened, Keystone took advantage of the situation, quickly putting the ball down and countering with a breakaway goal in the following moments in what led to a game winner for the Giants.
Keystone forward Scott Bensigner put home an unassisted score just 4:49 in into the OT after breaking free behind the Crimson Eagles' back line.
The host squad would hold a 16-11 edge in shots for the game and a 5-4 margin in total corners.
PBU falls to 3-3-1 with the loss while Keystone improves to 2-5 overall.
The Crimson Eagles will return to action at home on Wednesday when the group takes on Arcadia University at 4:00 pm.
