Newark Slides Past Soccer Team, 3-0

Box Score

NEWARK, NJ
- Friday night's game at Rutgers-Newark was cold, wet and dreary. Unfortunately for PBU, those same adjectives could accurately describe how things went on the field as well.

The Crimson Eagles fell 3-0 during a rain soaked affair that didn't quite serve as an overall astetically pleasing 90 minutes. The inclement weather had a direct effect on the quality of play for both teams throughout the night as the visitors were forced to continually fend off a relentless Scarlet Raider attack.

"Tonight's game didn't exactly go our way," head coach Clay Roberts said following the final horn. "We had a couple of injuries that set us back a bit and the weather definitely affected us - no doubt about it."

PBU would be forced to combat 32 Rutgers' shots for the evening as the host squad racked up their greatest offensive output of the season. The Crimson Eagles would muster only a single crack at the goal for the game on the offensive end when all was said and done.

Newark would break the scoreless tie in the 22nd minute of play when Scarlet Raider sophomore forward Liana Abreu would collect and rifle in the only score of the opening stanza.

Despite a commendable effort from PBU keeper Kristen Lyszczasz in the net, Rutgers' constant pressure would crack the Crimson Eagle back line twice more in the second half to boost the count to 3-0 by the time the clock expired. Lyszczasz ended up collecting 10 saves for the night.

"I though Kristen played great tonight and came up with some big stops," Roberts continued. "They were probably one of the best teams we've played so far... they were really good. We did show a few positive things tonight and I thought we played hard, but Rutgers was just very impressive."

The Crimson Eagles slip to 1-3 on the year following the loss while the Scarlet Raiders move to 2-3.

The soccer team will gear up for another contest less than 24 hours from now when the team takes on New Jersey City University tomorrow evening at 5:00 pm.
