LANGHORNE, PA - The men's volleyball team went 2-2 during the Vassar College Invitational this weekend, securing wins over Elms College and Johnson & Wales while falling against two nationally ranked schools, Vassar and Nazareth.
Facing host Vassar College - ranked third nationally - to open play Friday night, the Crimson Eagles were dished a 3-1 loss by scores of 30-18, 22-30, 30-23, and 30-27. But PBU bounced back by handily sweeping through Elms College later in the evening as the Blazers were overwhelmed by a powerful Crimson Eagle offense that collected a .382 hitting percentage for the match. The 3-0 sweep came by scores of 30-21, 30-22, 30-25.
The Crimson Eagles once again struggled with another nationally ranked foe Saturday morning as Nazareth College - number seven in the most recent AVCA coaches poll - survive a gut-check type match that saw the Golden Flyers win each set by two points. Nazareth ended up coming out on top by scores of 33-31, 30-28, 30-28. Looking to bounce back, the Crimson Eagles finished the weekend with a 3-0 trouncing of Johnson and Wales University, rolling through the Wildcats 30-23, 30-19, 30-22.
Sophomore Justin Brubaker, who finished with at least 17 kills in each match and twice topped the 20-kill barrier, was named to the All-Invitational team for his efforts throughout the weekend.
The Crimson Eagles will return to action on Tuesday when the team heads to Polytechnic University with match time slated for 7:00 pm.
