LANGHORNE, PA - Upending the 11th ranked team in the nation is one way to come out of a slump.
Following a horrendous weekend in which Hunter College was blanked in four straight matches, the Hawks managed to reverse their recent poor fortune, taking down host PBU in five arduous sets Tuesday night. Hunter came out victorious by scores of 30-28, 30-24, 24-30, 26-30, 15-9.
Despite the host squad racking up their third straight match with a plus-.300 hitting percentage, Hunter managed to dig in defensively when it counted, allowing just five PBU kills in fifteen attempts during the final set.
Entering Tuesday's contest with one of the most well-balanced offensive attacks in the country, the Hawks placed three players in double figures in the kill department with Wojciech Jakubiak paving the way with 26.
The Crimson Eagles were led on both ends of the floor by the tandem of Justin Brubaker (29 kills, 20 digs) and Leandro Dueck (14 kills, 19 digs) as the duo combined for 43 kills and 39 digs on the evening.
The Crimson Eagles fall to 7-6 with the loss while Hunter improves to 13-11 on the year.
PBU will continue action this weekend when the group competes in the Vassar College Invitational in New York. On Friday at 4:00 pm, the team will take on host Vassar at 4:00 pm. The Brewers are currently ranked fifth nationally. PBU will challenge Elms College (6-7) later that night at 8:00 pm and will continue play Saturday afternoon against eighth ranked Nazareth College (10-3) at noon. PBU will wrap up action against Johnson and Wales University (4-4) at 2:00 pm.
