PBU Drops 2-1 Decision in Nonconference Action

Warren Scales managed a PBU's lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Moravian College on Tuesday. The defeat marks the Crimson Eagles' third straight.

Box Score

BETHLEHEM, PA
- The bad news is that PBU lost their third straight contest Tuesday afternoon. The good news? If current trends continue, the Crimson Eagles are now poised to win three in a row.

Going up against a Moravian squad that PBU managed to rout 4-1 a year ago, the Crimson Eagles weren't able to overcome two Greyhound scores this time around, falling 2-1 in Bethlehem on Tuesday. Warren Scales nailed PBU's only goal of the day in the 88th minute, giving the senior forward his first score of the '08 season.

But after losing their first three, winning their next trio, and now dropping three more in a row, PBU is in optimal position to go on a three game tear - which would be especially nice considering two of their next three contests come against CSAC rivals.

On Tuesday Moravian's Chris Walsh helped to erase a 0-0 draw by collecting a pass from Blake Ritchey, slipping the ball past PBU keeper Andy Ecker to put the hosts up one-nil in the 39th minute.

With a one goal advantage over the ensuing 48 minutes of play, the Greyhounds managed to keep PBU's offense at arms length, holding the Crimson Eagle front line scoreless for all of 88:11 minutes. In fact, Moravian's Taylor Molinaro helped give the hosts a two goal cushion with three minutes left before PBU's Warren Scales connected to help PBU avoid their second straight shutout.

"We possessed the ball fairly well today and had good control," said head Coach Clay Roberts following the match. "Unfortunately it came down to the fact that they finished and we didn't. Simple as that."

Tuesday's one goal loss means five of six Crimson Eagle defeats have come by a solo score. Sophomore keeper Andy Ecker, the leading goalie in the CSAC in terms of save percentage, finished with four stuffs on the afternoon.

The Crimson Eagles fall to 3-6 overall with the loss, while Moravian improves to 4-5-1.

The soccer team will wrap up the week by hosting Gwynedd-Mercy College on Saturday during the Crimson Celebration at 2:00 pm.
