LANGHORNE, PA
- If she wanted to make the last home opener of career a memorable one, then she no-doubt achieved her goal.

Alexa Hays punched in a career high four goals in PBU's 6-0 shutout over the visiting Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks, drilling a hat-trick in the opening forty minutes of play. An early score in the second period gave Hays her fourth goal of the afternoon, marking a career high for the senior forward to the delight of the Langhorne crowd in the Crimson Eagles' home opener of 2008.

It was all PBU from the start, and, as the 33-0 shot discrepency might suggest, PBU controlled play for nearly the entire 90 minutes. Hays fired off nearly half of those shots on her own, finishing the afternoon with 16 attempts.

If defense was a question coming into the game, PBU made sure to change that on Wednesday. Junior goalkeeper Kristen Lyszczasz enjoyed a quiet day in the box as the Crimson Eagle back line did not allow Berks to register a single shot on the afternoon.

Senior Brittany Spalring and sophomore Nicole Smith each joined in on the scoring action as both players dropped in their first scores of the year. Smith and junior Christine Mellon each recorded a solo assist in the win.

Penn State Berks keeper Cassidy Dawson did her best to keep things close, registering 15 saves for the Nittany Lions in their first contest of the year.

PBU improves to 1-2 overall with the victory, while PSB slips to 0-1.

The soccer team will take almost a week break before returning to the field next Tuesday to take on Rutgers-Camden University in New Jersey at 7:00 p.m.
