RADNOR, PA - In jeopardy of dropping into a two game hole within CSAC play, the Crimson Eagles fell into exactly the scenario they were hoping to avoid.
After accumulating just two losses within conference play a season ago in NEAC competition, the women’s soccer team matched last year’s conference loss total Tuesday, putting themselves in an 0-2 deficit in conference play after falling to Cabrini College, 7-0.
The Cavaliers used a remarkable 28-0 shot advantage against the Crimson Eagles to run past the visitors in their biggest win of the season. Tuesday’s game first time that PBU has failed to record a single shot in a contest in over two years, the last time coming back in September of ‘06 when the squad fell to Rutgers-Newark, 2-0.
After a scoreless first 14 minutes of play Tuesday, Cabrini finally cracked the scoring column following Jenna Laufenberg’s put-back off a corner to put the hosts up 1-0.
Talk about opening the floodgates.
Holding a one goal edge, Cabrini’s methodical attack would continue for what seemed to be the remainder of play. Just 1:49 after the host’s first score, rookie Kara Hinkelmon collected a pass from senior Collette Walsh and managed to drill a bullet from 18 yards out to give the Cavaliers a two goal cushion.
Cabrini would notch two additional scores in the first half to blow open a 4-0 lead before the intermission, and would follow up in the final forty minutes by finding the back of the cage three more times.
When the smoke cleared at the following the 90 minutes of action, Cabrini found themselves on the envious side of a 7-0 rout that saw six different players score and five different players register at least one assist on the night. The Cavaliers also held a 9-0 edge in corners taken for the game.
The loss drops PBU’s record to 2-6 (0-2 CSAC) while Cabrini improves to 4-4 overall (1-0 CSAC).
On Saturday, the soccer team will wrap up the last of a four game road trip when the group takes on host Marywood University (3-4-1, 0-0 CSAC) at noon.
