PHOENIXVILLE, PA – After beginning the season with an 0-3 record, the men’s soccer team has reversed the trend over the course of their last trio of games.
PBU won their third straight contest Saturday afternoon, running away with their second largest win of the season and their second consecutive shutout in a 4-0 blanking over host Valley Forge Christian College.
The soccer team controlled play from the opening kick-off, forcing pressure on the Patriots’ back line the majority of the game.
The effort soon paid off as sophomore forward Josh Morrison opened up the scoring early by connecting on a left footed strike from the top of the box. Holding a 1-0 following Morrison’s second career goal, Jeremy Dunham helped provide an extra cushion for PBU on what ended up being his first of two scores on the afternoon. The senior forward flashed down the right side of the field and bent the ball past Valley Forge junior keeper Jon Schanck to register his fourth goal of the season.
Freshman Justin Hays notched his third score of the season off a rebound following a Dunham free kick to give PBU a 3-0 advantage. Looking to provide the knockout punch by halftime, Dunham recorded in his second score of the period off a feed from Morrison late in the opening stanza.
“I felt like we were well organized again today and I’m pleased with the way we’ve been able to build on things the last couple of games,” said head coach Clay Roberts following Saturday's contest. “It was good to get all of the guys in the game today and see everyone contribute.”
With the win, the Crimson Eagles improve to 3-3 overall on the season, while Valley Forge slips to 4-4 with the loss.
The soccer team will return to the field next Wednesday to take on Lancaster Bible College. Game time in Langhorne is 4:00 pm.
