LANGHORNE, PA - The Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Clay Roberts as men's soccer coach.
Coach Roberts takes over for Tom Fink, who led the Crimson Eagles to seven NCCAA II National Championships and two NEAC regular season titles in his 25-year tenure as head coach.
Roberts comes to PBU from Palm Beach Atlantic University (NCAA II, NCCAA I) where he served as an assistant coach for the Sailfish, who accumulated a program-best 14-4-2 record last year and appeared in the NCCAA I National Championship match. Previously Roberts coached at Plant City High School in Plant City, Florida. He has also worked as an instructor at numerous soccer camps and clinics during his years in the game.
Coach Roberts was a standout player for Florida Southern College (NCAA II) during his collegiate career. He then moved on to play for the Charlotte Eagles of the United Soccer League for three seasons during which the team appeared in three straight USL Championship matches, winning the title in 2005. He has played for the Philadelphia Kixx of the Major Indoor Soccer League for the last two seasons, anchoring the defense of the 2007 MISL Championship team.
"I am excited to continue my coaching career at an institution like PBU," said Roberts. "God used soccer to change my life as a college student and I look forward to investing in the lives of the student-athletes at PBU both on and off the field."
"Clay brings a passion and enthusiasm not only for the game of soccer but for the mentoring and discipleship of the players under his care," said Director of Athletics Drew Watson. "I believe he is the right man to lead the team and to continue the tradition of excellence we have come to expect from the program."
